ABOUT THIS PAINTING
This painting was one of three original watercolor paintings I created when commissioned to create the 99th Anniversary Wilmington, Delaware Flower Market poster print painting. I sought to capture the childhood magic of this beloved annual Wilmington, DE tradition incorporated motifs and imagery that connected to the setting (Wilmington's Rockford Park) using a splashy, illustrative painting style. Stylized flowers ring the iconic Rockford Tower in the center of the composition, and other fairground elements such as striped tents and a ferris wheel are best incorporated at the bottom. This beloved annual Wilmington, Delaware tradition was founded by Mrs. A. Felix duPont in 1921, and the The Wilmington Flower Market has become one of the longest-running service organizations in Delaware, benefiting Delaware's children.
