A nice early studio pottery vase made by Tacoma Washington potter Jack Dwayne Westlin (1928-2003). He taught at Stadium High School and exhibited his hand made pottery at various craft shows in the Northwest. He is known for his unique decorated pottery lamps, vases, mugs and dinnerware.
This vase is an early example of his work made from a red stoneware clay and glazed in a frothy brown Carmel like glaze that flows down over a russet brown glaze seen around the neck and base of the vase.
The vase is larger than most Westlin pieces seen. It measures 8.5" tall and is 5.5" wide in the center area. It has good weight to it and is hand thrown.
The base has the Westlin signature in black ink.
This northwest studio pottery vase is in nice condition with only a hint of past use. A great art pottery vase to add to your NW studio pottery collection. best
