Vintage Wicker & Rattan Dog Sculpture Basket best with Lid | Small Hand-Woven Pekingese Figurine Decorative Storage Box by Shanghai Handicrafts

This woven wicker dog basket with lid from Shanghai Handicrafts is in excellent vintage condition.

This particular wicker basket is quite rare. I haven't been able to find many examples of this particular little dog from Shanghai Handicrafts. It is made of a very very finely woven wicker with wider reed pieces to form the ears, the part in the back fur, and the fluffy tail. It has a glossy finish that has a bit of an ombre effect ranging from black to reddish brown to natural wicker seamlessly. It had little bead eyes that are very cute. Based on the markings, I believe it is specifically a Pekingese dog.

The basket is quite small, measuring:
- 6.5" long
- 5.5" tall
- 3.5" wide

The head of the dog comes off to reveal that it is actually a storage basket / trinket container. The lid fits snuggly, but it's not difficult to remove or replace it.

The bottom section has an best original label on the bottom. The basket was made in the People's Republic of China by Shanghai Handicrafts. The label is in good condition.

Whether you put it on a shelf to display as a dog sculpture or use it as a box (it would make a great face mask container or keepsake holder), you will surely appreciate its excellent craftsmanship. It would even make a wonderful gift for any dog lover!
