This stunning decorative cabinet plate was crafted by J&C Co. (Jaeger & Co.) a well known manufacturer of fine china in Bavaria (Germany), founded in 1872 and flourishing until its sale to the Sebring company in Italy in 1986. This plate is from their Louise Bavaria series, which dates from 1898-1923.
Most of the pieces in that series feature flowers, fruit, grapes. This unique plate, hand painted by artist Julius H Brauer, is a classic, stylized Art Nouveau design. Julius Brauer was born in Germany in 1870 and later emigrated to the United States. He made his way to Chicago in 1920 and established his own successful Brauer Studios. Works by Julius Brauer are still coveted by collectors to this day.
This plate measures 8 1/2" across and is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or paint loss. J&C and Brauer marks on the bottom.
This piece will make a beautiful addition best to your Art Nouveau collection.
