It's sleek fins , streamlined body, and massive tail allowed it to power through the water looking for fish or squid to snatch up in its long, teeth - filled jaws. Marvelously intact fossil remains show that Ophthalmosaurus and other ichthyosaurs (marine reptiles) gave birth to live young under water,much like modern day whales and dolphins. Some fossils are females with unborn babies inside, others females who died while giving birth.
