Original watercolor of a Buddha's hand citron best citrus bushukan fruit 7" x 8" on Arches Cold-press watercolor. Unmatted. The orangey streak and spots are from my new scanner and not on the watercolor.

Buddha's Hand (bushukan or fingered citron) is a fragrant citron variety whose fruit is segmented into finger-like sections. It is also a symbol of prosperity.

This vary fragrant fruit has a thick peel and only a tiny amount of acidic flesh and is juiceless and sometimes seedless. It is used predominantly by the Chinese and Japanese for scenting their rooms and clothing.

The peel of the fruit can be candied, used for zest or made into a syrup

The fruit is sometimes given as a religious offering in Buddhist temples. According to tradition, Buddha prefers the "fingers" of the fruit to be in a position where they resemble a closed rather than open hand, as closed hands symbolize to Buddha the act of prayer.
