The 1950s and 1960s marked a key, important phase in design development in the old Soviet Union. Contrary to popular belief more than lack of money the fact that people could own one of these objects was dictated by how available they, in fact, might have been.
These toys were rare already during that time. Centralized administrative planning typical in the USSR fostered a situation in which production was limited and the distribution was approximate. The chances these toys would end up in a shop where someone could afford to purchase one were also left to fate in most cases. All these factors combined probably help to explain why there are so few of them around nowadays. best
