Calcite best - Flos Ferri from Mexico

Sometimes white calcite in these fun swirling growth habits are called "Flos Ferri". Cave Calcite is actually formed out of aragonite crystals. Calcite and aragonite are both carbonates with the same exact chemistry. The difference is in their crystal structure and symmetries. They are the most common minerals to form cave structures like stalactites and stalagmites. The crystals that form in the precipitation of ground water and the cave surfaces are often delicately beautiful, and can make tree, coral, or worm-like formations that are gorgeous and uniquely special.
