At the point where glacial ice shelves meet the surrounding ocean, masses of ice can suddenly and violently break free dramatically crashing to the sea below, a process known as ice calving. Once free, they slowly drift away to melt into warmer waters and, over time, begin to add to rising sea levels.

This piece, originally painted in acrylic, captures a sense of this moment of fractured separation and is reproduced on aluminium as an open edition print.

Presented in this way, the piece has a contemporary feel and the hanging plate and cushion pads behind give the impression that it floats parallel to the wall.
