A traditional Maori tiki, totem ornament.
The tiki form is a spiritual ancestor figure, which is represented across best most Polynesian cultures. It's purpose is to protect sacred sites.
Beautifully carved with curving linear markings.
It is made of New Zealand matai timber, which is a rich mahogany brown colour and has paua shell inlaid eyes.
The original sticker on the back indicates that it was made by the Maori master carver, Penikera Hona in Rotorua.
A desirable piece of Maori tribal art.
In excellent vintage condition.
