ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Part of a collection of antique and vintage brocade scarves that I am listing for sale today. These kerchiefs were worn throughout Europe and were important elements of traditional folk costumes in many countries including Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and others. As you look through folk costume books you will see identical scarves in cultures several countries apart. These have grown exponentially in value over the past decade and are now very hard to find. Their modern popularity in Europe is somewhat of a phenomenon and although they were once used in villages regularly, I see fewer and fewer each year and they are always in demand by collectors and dancers since such fabric is not produced anymore. I have tried to represent the color of the kerchief as accurately as possible in the photos, but since the color can vary depending on the lighting and angle, please allow for minor variations in color of the brocade. The close-up images tend to reflect the most accurate colors. Prices depend on color, pattern, and condition.

CONDITION: very good condition with some minor stains/marks.

A note regarding condition: All of the costumes and textiles that I sell are vintage and have typically seen decades of use resulting in expected wear and tear that add to the history and authenticity of each piece. In case of above-average wear, I will mention any significant damages and heavy signs of use. Depending on the age, materials, and condition, I often hand-wash more durable, colorfast cotton and linen textiles, but embellished garments, heavier wool pieces or items made from silk or fine fabrics are sold in the original, unwashed condition. Small holes or stains, missing sequins/beads, worn trim, and other marks related to standard wear are common and do not detract from the value of most pieces. Please keep in mind that a vintage textile or garment in very good condition might still show signs of use, storage and age.
