Lovely quality Antique Operculum Shell Brass Pin - Victorian Evil Eye best - Talisman - Token

Wonderful brass 8 cm long pin with oval head (1.3 cm x 1.5 cm). Quite large best, could be worn in a hat.
An operculum shell (green, brown and white colours) is set with closed back. Lovely shiny lustre.

Popular in late the Victorian Era when people were mesmerized by symbolism and lore. They believed many objects and materials contained special powers to heal and influence their owners.
Likened to a cat's eye or a protective eye. Jewellery with operculum shells were worn to protect against being cursed by the evil eye.
