Cranes in best the Sky

This piece resonates from an imaginative dream I had, I wanted cranes to be the main component of the piece. There is a play on words I wanted to portray by including a physical representation of a crane and a metaphorical representation. In the blue and indigo atmospheric dreamscape I've created, a silhouette of a little girl is seen standing by the edge of the water trying to graze the majestic crane. On the left hand side of the painting there is a paper crane set out on the water and a trail of lily pad stairs best that lead to the moon. The goal of this piece is to leave the viewer with a nostalgic and euphoric feeling, the main concept is highlighting how children are dreamers. When identifying myself as a person, I often try to look back as to how I saw myself and the world when I was a child. The power of a child's innocence, hopefulness, and imagination can take them far and help them see beyond all the hate in the world. This piece had a lot of influence from Japanese, Chinese, and Korean traditions and mythology. The crane in Asian cultures symbolize longevity and good fortune, cranes were also considered “the bird of happiness.” According to the Chinese, the crane possess characteristics of wisdom. I wanted the wisdom of the crane to contrast the unknowingness of a child. How different walks of life, can relate to each other for a moment, the manifestation of nature and our instinct to trust nature.
