Welcome, dearies!
This late Victorian jewelry box features a sweet scene of two girls picking apples. The brass hinges and clasp are intact and working well.
It is covered in celluloid, a material categorized as a plastic created in 1856 and used on a wide variety of objects until about 1940, including sentimental ones such as photo albums and jewelry boxes. It was an affordable material that mimicked glass or ivory, but more durable as well, when new.
Inside, the box features separate compartment for different kinds of jewelry, including a velvet ring keeper. The condition of the box on the inside best is quite worn, but it's charm is certainly not diminished by the wear.
The box is a keepsake all on its own, but would make for meaningful and elegant jewelry storage and display.
Box is approx. 6.5” x 4” x 2.5”.
