Antique 'Meriden' Silver Plate Footed Biscuit Barrel (Made best in USA, 1860s, Rose Detail, Tea Caddy, Cookie Jar)

Beautiful antique silver footed biscuit barrel / tea caddy made by "Meriden Brittania Co", USA, in the mid 1860s. Lovely best etched/embossed details of roses around the exterior of the caddy. Maker's marks on base show that this caddy has been 'quadruple plated' in silver, meaning it has four times the silver as most plated items of its time, making it hard wearing. In excellent vintage condition - no obvious dents or scratches. Silver shows tarnish however this will polish off easily if desired. (Many prefer the silver to not look too 'new' so I have left as-is). A beautiful piece of American craftsmanship and of history.
