What fun these little fiber art pieces are to make! A creek near our home has a slate deposit in the bank. From this spot I am able to retrieve small pieces of slate in random shapes. I remove any loose flakes of slate and clean them, then can use them for the weaving base. Drilled holes accommodate the warp threads and then I am ready to start the actual weaving process. I use natural fibers, such as dried lily leaves, barks, slivers of corn husks, jute twine, wool yarn, and even tiny twigs.

After the weaving is finished I find an embellishment for any unused space. For this weaving I used a stone arrowhead (a new one, not an artifact), which I attached with artificial sinew and metal beads. A hanging loop of waxed linen on the back finishes the piece. My signature is on the back.

Colors in this piece are greens, mustard, and beige. Very earthy look!

Dimensions: 6" wide and 5" tall. This is the smallest weaving in my series.
