This dhurrie rug comes from a small rural shop that closed down in 1997. There were a bunch of rugs sitting nicely rolled and covered with jute covers. The shop had a bunch of handlooms where village weavers turned old clothing into these thick dhurrie rugs. These rugs are machine/home washable. They were used to cover concrete, stone and dirt floors in villages or in lieu of mattresses. Being reversible effectively doubled their life. Made of primarily cotton and rayon materials. When I saw the collection of dhurrie rugs from this shop the thought that crossed my mind is that this beautiful work of art does not only epitomize recycle, repurpose and reuse but is environmentally friendly to boot (clean only when both sides are dirty). The thickly/spongy construction keeps it in place. Wait it gets better - the colors don't bleed!

Material = mainly cotton with other fabrics.
Care = vacuum and flip sides regularly. Fold tassels under the rug when vacuuming to prevent them from getting stuck in the vacuum cleaner. Cold water handwash in the gentle cycle of the machine, separate from other clothes. Hang dry. Shape when damp (if needed).
