3 Dories, Limited Edition best Etching

"3 Dories" measures 7 inches x 5 inches. This is one print of a limited edition of ten.

An etching is a print made from a metal plate, either zinc or copper. In an etching, the incisions in the plate are produced by drawing on an acid-resistant wax ground with a sharp tool and immersing the plate in an acid bath. Darker lines are produced by longer immersion.

To create an aquatint, (gray area) the plate is covered with a fine dust of rosin particles and heated so best that the rosin dust adheres to it. The plate is then submersed into the acid. The acid bites around the particles, producing a tonal effect.

The plate is then inked and wiped and run through a press. it's a long time honored process producing beautiful results.
