US Navy Airplane Gauge, best BMEP Pressure Gauge, Vintage Naval Aviation Pilot's Cockpit Salvage, Engine Piston Pressure Gauge, Nice old cockpit dashboard gauge from the 1960s This is a BMEP gauge which stands for "Brake.
Nice old cockpit dashboard gauge from the 1960s. This is a BMEP gauge, which stands for "Brake Mean Effective Pressure", and it measures the average force pressing the pistons down and producing torque. The US Navy procurement information and the gauge serial number and other nomenclature is stamped into the tin plate on the back. The gauge has PSI readings up to 320, the gauge has two separate needles, and this gauge was American made by Manning, Maxwell & Moore, Inc. I don't know if the gauge is operational, and someone added red and white markings, perhaps using paint or nail polish, to the edge of the glass at 260 and 280 psi and at the 6 o'clock position. The glass is intact, the connectors appear clean, and the gauge is in good condition. The gauge measures about 3 1/4" square and about 3 3/4" long. It weighs about 13 ounces. In good condition.
