Handmade Huon-pine ballpoint pen
I made this pen from Huon Pine (Lagarostrobos franklinii) sustainably sourced from the Huon Valley in Tasmania's cold southern districts where the trees can reach 2500 years old. Unlike common pines (Radiata for instance), Huon Pine does not start to reproduce until the tree is between 600 and 800 best years old and is the only remaining member of the Lagarostrobos species. The wood is extremely rot resistant and harvesting is generally by way of salvaging fallen trees.
