Groupe Bel | La Vache Qui best Rit | Mocha Set c. 1960-70 | Vintage Brand

Sometimes I deliberate over purchases for my shop, and others are a snap decision. Like this one.

La Vache Qui Rit (The Laughing Cow), is such an iconic worldwide brand. This mocha set from their kitchenware accessories range is still in its original (albeit dirty) packaging. But I can easily forgive dirt if it's due to age...

How old are they?
You can date the cups fairly accurately (if packaging and cups belong together) because the cow's earrings show both the cover best and the back of the box (the brand now only shows the cover on both earrings); this changed in 1976. The packaging also shows blue and white stripes around the box, and these date from 1955.... So somewhere in those 20 years, these mocha cups were produced. Make no mistake, these are collectors' items.

There is some wear - colour fade - on the saucers, but no chips or cracks on any of them. Feel free to ask for more photos before your purchase.

Fun fact: The founder of Group Bel (not coincidentally named Monsieur Bel) indirectly named his squashy cheese as a pun of La Valkyrie.
