The work of the poet and essayist Henry Austin Dobson, mostly known as Austin Dobson.

Profusely illustrated throughout by the Irish illustrator Hugh Thomson, whose work notably was featured in the novels of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, among many others.

Of the illustrations Dobson notes, '[Thomson] has illustrated them with an ability which I can only admire, and a personal enthusiasm for which I can scarcely be sufficiently grateful'.

With previous owners ink inscriptions to the front endpaper.

A lovely volume for those with an interest in Dobson's work, on indeed the poetry of the 18th century. Condition Report: In a full cloth binding, with gilt detailing the front board and spine. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and also the extremities. Rubbing the spine, joints and extremities. Light offsetting and spots to the front and rear endpapers and pastedowns. Ink inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, with the occasional patch of foxing, mostly to the first few pages. Otherwise, just the odd spot. Overall: Very Good
