Art Deco Glass Inkwell for Calligraphy Dipping Pens & Quills, French Antique Desk Ornament or Calligraphy Gift, Found And Flogged in France. Very attractive one-piece Glass ink well with a silver metal top, estimated from the 1930's. It looks like it was molded and the randomly shaped ink pot inside must have been blown while the glass was still molten.

Although the silver metal top is not removable, the ink pot can be cleaned out easily. Fit best for purpose and a beautiful gift for a calligrapher, or an attractive desk ornament that could double up as a paperweight. (Please note Quill not included) As with everything else in the shop, worldwide shipping is included in the price.

Inkwells are quite widely collected, but apart from their practical use for calligraphers, they are not widely used these days. The ballpoint pen or biro was invented way back in in 1938. When they were first sold in the US in 1945, hundreds of people lined up to buy them despite the fact that they cost more than $150 in today's dollars.

Condition : Used antique utilitarian item with some age appropriate wear. One chip to the front left hand corner (no sharp edges, see photo #9) plus some scratching to the underneath and the lid (see photos)
