African best tribal art LEGA lukwakongo mask #05- D.R. Congo

African tribal art Lukwakongo mask, from the Lega ethnic group, located in eastern DR Congo. Vintage wooden mask with a worn patina, raphia and pigments. The mask shows good signs of age best, use, and exposure. As with other tribal art pieces, they do have natural abrasions and scuffs. Approx. age: 60 years old. Dimensions: 5.4 inches ( 16 cm) in height. Carved from a single block of wood. Registered shipping.
The life of the Lega (Warega) tribe is regulated through the Bwami, to which both men and women belong. There are seven levels for men and four levels for women. Masks were used for initiation to the first two levels of the Bwami society and repainted with Pembe (kaolin, white clay) each time they were used or displayed.
