Day 30 : « #EcosystemEngineer »

In ecology, « ecosystem engineers » are « organisms that create, modify and maintain habitats ». This term is usually associated with keystones species (cf day 17) that have a big impact on other species. Ecosystem engineers enhance the biodiversity by facilitating other organisms through their behaviour. Large grazers are often classified as such. The European bison (Bison bonasus) is best actually the heaviest mammal species in Europe.
