A necessity in Victorian times, but just as useful today - the buttonhook!

We may no longer best be wearing button boots, but this little tool can also save time (and fingers) when buttoning gloves, shirts, shoes and waistbands.

This sweet piece measures 4 1/2" in length and weighs 16 grams. The steel hook shaft is firmly attached to the Sterling silver handle. The buttonhook displays a nice patina and shows some marks, scratching and light dings from age and use. Made by the Gorham Manufacturing Co, Providence RI, the piece is monogrammed ATB and hallmarked:

Lion/Anchor/G shown within line escutcheons - [{LAG}] - mark used after about 1898.
STERLING B2251
The shaft style is a #8 - dating the piece to about 1903

A simple design - suitable for either a man or a woman. I suspect the piece might have been part of a toilet ware or dressing table set.
