The first edition of this work. Stephen Powys Marks provides a brief account of the most important maps depicting London shortly before and at the beginning of the reign of Elizabeth I, illustrating their relationship to one another. Including a copper engraving of Hoogenberg's map, the woodcut formerly attributed to Ralph Agas, and the pewter engraving acquired by George Vertue, bought by the Society of Antiquaries. With ten full page plates, four of which are folding. Collated, complete.  Condition Report: In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear only, only a minor sunning to the head of the spine, and a hint of fading along the spine. Internally, firmly bound. The pages best With a minor faint spotting to the fore edge, affecting the endpapers and first few leaves only, otherwise the pages are bright and clean throughout. With ten full page plates, four of which are folding. Collated, complete.
