Mexican Tonala pottery is distinguished by its satin gloss appearance technique. Instead of applying a glazed finish each piece is rubbed with stone before firing - giving the surface a natural shine. Also traditional Tonala artwork features highly stylized designs of animals, plants and mythical creatures painted in earthy colors. This large Tonala pottery bird figurine has been artisan molded and decorated. The burnished high fired ceramic piece depicts a long necked rabbit type creature sitting among tropical leaves.
